Successful Doctor's Appointment!!!!

Can you tell by the picture how the day went? Oh, my goodness.... there must have been a multitude of people praying because Ty did so well today at the doctor's!! El was able to come with us this morning and I think that helped a lot, too. Anyway, he had a great start this morning, because he got to ride in Daddy's truck!! You would have thought we were taking him to Disney World. He was so excited and just kept asking me all morning "Daddy? Makeena?". He got to ride with El in the truck and as you can see he was just a little happy about that!

At the doctor's, they had an interpreter who could speak Amharic. Well, it turns out Amharic is Ty's second language, which he had began speaking when he was transfered to Addis Abba (Ethiopia's capital) only 2 months ago. He is originally from Southern Ethiopia, near a town called Soto, and there, they speak another language (or dialetic). Unfortunately the interpreter and Ty weren't able to communicate very well together, but it was definitely better than nothing. As we went in, he began crying but the interpreter was there doing the best he could to explain to him what was going on. That helped, but he sure did cling to El throughout the whole process. The doctor gave him a complete physical and he cried through some of it, but not bad. Then, he met with a lady who evaluated him developmentally. He passed both exams with no problems. Right before it was time to go down to the lab for blood work, the doctor came in one last time with the nurse to give Ty a TB test, because he said that this was going to be a tough one. All 4 of us were holding him so he wouldn't kick and pull away. We were prepared for anything, except what happened... as the doctor put in the needle... Ty looked at us and LAUGHED!!! Yes, you heard it right... he laughed! We were all so shocked that we began laughing, and he laughed even harder! Unbelievable, but true! After the TB test was done we went down stairs to get the blood work done. Right before the nurse called us into the room Ty began crying again. We went back and once again as soon as the needle went into his skin, he looked at me and started laughing AGAIN! The nurses were shocked and couldn't believe it! Neither could we for that matter! All I can think is that people had to have been praying. Thank you!

After that we spent the afternoon at the Long's. The Longs are friends of ours who are adopting 3 Ethiopian children and they will be traveling in about a month to pick up their kids. Sheri Daubenmier brought her kids over and again they had fun playing. They were able to get outside and ride bikes which made them all happy.

The rest of the day went well. Ty's most exciting discovery today had to have been the swing. Oh my goodness.... he would say "more, more" and just laugh so hard as we pushed him higher and higher. He had the best time swinging and he has the most contagious laugh. When he starts laughing everyone around him starts laughing. It is the funniest thing ever. He also discovered my treat drawer, and I would hear him say, "Mommy?" and when I looked he would shove another piece of candy in his mouth. After this happened a couple of times, I had to find a new place to hide my stash of treats, which had gotten quite small. At the dinner table he demonstrated a trick which surprised us all... he can squirt water, between his 2 front teeth, all the way across the table! Isaac was delighted and can't wait to teach Zac and Peter how to do this! :-) Ty also likes to unload the trash can, and then he gives it to Minnie (our dog). Then, he just stands there and laughs! I have to say he has about the best laugh ever, so when he does something that he's not supposed to do, and starts laughing, it makes it very hard to discipline him!
