Ty's glasses!

To understand the full magnitude of this picture you would have had to have been living with Ty since the day he came home. Before Ty could speak any English he was able to make us understand how badly he wanted glasses. He would always ask to wear El's glasses or in fact, he would ask anybody he would run into if he could try on their glasses. Once in church, my sister was trying to get my attention and when I looked over Ty was picking up a pair of glasses off of the pew in front of him. While the lady in front of us was up singing, she had no idea that Ty was back there playing with her glasses. Then there was the visit to the Eye Doctor's... he was so excited to see ALL those glasses lined up along the wall and he thought for sure I was taking him to get glasses. That was only a month after he was here and he didn't understand that we were just getting his eyes checked. I have never prayed so hard before that my child would NEED glasses! Well, unfortunately he checked out fine, and as we were leaving he screamed and cried (you would have thought I was taking him to the dentist)! :-) To this day he has not given up on getting glasses and has continued to ask us (daily) if he could get glasses for his birthday. Our explanations of "maybe when you are older" are not good enough. We try to tell him that not having glasses is good and means your eyes are good. He just says, "No, good eyes"!

Well, then came the blessed day that we were walking through the dollar store and low and behold there was a pair of kids reading glasses and only for a dollar! I am not sure who was happier me or Ty! Ty was dancing through the store with his glasses on happy to have them, and I was dancing through the store happy that I would never have to have the conversation about glasses with Ty again!!!... and did I mention they were only a dollar!!!!

That is hilarious! I can see him now, sporting the glasses and Ethiopian hat everywhere he goes.

You should have wrapped them up for his birthday - it would have been his favorite gift and for only $1.00!Kris

That was the plan and I held out for a whole minute... but when I saw him dancing down through the store... I just couldn't. :-) Delaying gratification isn't one of my strong points... I tend to live in the moment! :-)
